Dr Collins is a specialist anaesthetist who practices with the goal of ensuring patients are as safe and comfortable as possible during their time in hospital. He is a local to the Hills district and studied at James Ruse Agricultural High School before receiving a scholarship to study medicine at the University of New South Wales, graduating in 2005. He initially pursued a career in Emergency Medicine, working in the Emergency Departments of Royal North Shore, Hornsby and Gosford Hospitals. Having decided that caring for patients around the time of surgery was where he sought to focus his medical skills, he pursued five years of specialist training in anaesthesia based at Royal North Shore Hospital (2010-2014). In this time he worked in numerous clinical environments including the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and the Ambulance Service of NSW & CareFlight - in retrieval medicine and international aeromedical operations. He received a certificate of merit for outstanding performance in the Final Exam of the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
Dr Collins is the acting Clinical Director of Anaesthesia & Pain Management for the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, based at Nepean Hospital. There he has roles managing the quality and safety of anaesthesia and pain services for the district. He teaches doctors during their specialty training in anaesthesia and is a Clinical Lecturer for University of Sydney (Nepean Clinical School). He has clinical appointments at Lakeview, Norwest & Westmead Private Hospitals. Dr Collins is an accredited instructor of Advanced Life Support (ALS2) with the Australian Resuscitation Council, Advanced Paediatric Life Support and the Effective Management of Anaesthesia Crises (EMAC) course of the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
Dr Collins works collaboratively with your surgeon (or proceduralist) and other health care workers to deliver the best possible care. He is keen to hear patients tell their stories, and understand how he can best help them return to normal quickly and safely.
