Dr Simon Collins

Dr Collins is a specialist anaesthetist who practices with the goal of ensuring all of his patients are as safe and comfortable as possible. He is a local to the Hills district and studied at James Ruse Agricultural High School before receiving a scholarship to study medicine at the University of New South Wales, graduating in 2005. He initially pursued a career in Emergency Medicine, working in the Emergency Departments of Royal North Shore, Hornsby and Gosford Hospitals. Turning to anaesthesia, he pursued five years of specialist training based at Royal North Shore Hospital (2010-2014). In this time he worked in numerous clinical environments including the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and the Ambulance Service of NSW & CareFlight - in retrieval medicine and international aeromedical operations. He received a certificate of merit for outstanding performance in the Final Exam of the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.<o:p></o:p>

Dr Collins has a strong interest in medical administration, particularly clinical governance and patient safety. He is the Director of Medical Services at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital, and was previously (2020-2021) the Clinical Director of Anaesthesia & Pain Management for the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, based at Nepean Hospital. He has academic appointments with the University of Sydney (Nepean Clinical School), and the University of NSW. He has clinical appointments at Lakeview, Norwest & Westmead Private Hospitals. Dr Collins is an accredited instructor of Advanced Life Support (ALS2) with the Australian Resuscitation Council, Advanced Paediatric Life Support and the Effective Management of Anaesthesia Crises (EMAC) course of the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.<o:p></o:p>

Dr Collins works collaboratively with your surgeon (or proceduralist) and other health care workers to deliver best possible care.
